Who am I really….well, my name is Jessica Yeo. I am a 23 year old Canarican (Canadian/American), and if I had to choose a place to call home, I’d tell you Minnesota. So what to know about me….well I’m 5’4 and love dying my hair purple. I’m a Batman fanatic. I love black licorice (drop) and McDonalds. I have 8 tattoos and want more. I love traveling, and it’s my life goal to visit every country in the world. I’ve lived in 5 countries, and currently live in South Africa while I’m serving with Adventures in Missions First Year Missionary Program. I love computers and the internet. I could read the newspaper every day. I love spending time with my friends and little kids.

But all this is just a small part of who I really am. 6 years ago I went to university to study Computer Information Systems and French. I was going to play soccer (football) and ice hockey. Some people thought I had my life together. But in reality, it wasn’t that way. There’s a lot of darkness in my past. And it took over my life. By the end of my first year in university it was all gone. I wasn’t doing well in school and dropped out of those studies, and I wasn’t playing sports anymore either. Over 18 years of major depression and other habits that go along with it were taking their toll. Life is a journey, and 6 years ago (and the previous few years as well) I wanted it to end. I’d had enough. There are so many things that happened during that time, but I want to share something more important.

In the midst of those years I decided I’d try Christianity as a last chance option. Besides, it wouldn’t change anything. That was 5 years ago yesterday (December 10). Nothing changed right away. I ended up in the hospital a few months after I became a Christian. But about two years ago (Spring of 2004) something finally clicked. This is truth. I had a great friend tell me that you don’t choose a religion because it suits you. That is what most people do. But it doesn’t work. Choose a belief because it’s truth. And that’s what Christianity is. Christians aren’t perfect, but Christianity is truth. Don’t believe it, do research. History lines up with the Bible. Don’t believe in heaven or hell? Don’t believe in God? That doesn’t matter. When you die you will have to face God with an account of your life. You have a choice to make in your life. Noone can make it for you.
