Here are two definitions according to dictionary.com
Ever - at all times; always
Lasting - continuing or enduring a long time; permanent; durable
So, combining the above two definitions, everlasting is " at all times continuing" "at all times enduring" "always permanent", etc.
The definition direct from this dictionary is lasting forever, eternal.
What I really want to speak of, though, is also the #6 definition of everlasting. If you type everlasting into dictionary.com the 6th response is "the Everlasting, GOD."
On January 13th, I journaled these lyrics: "Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fails." On that day, the word everlasting, especially when used in context of God, began to really stand out for me. That was over 3 months ago. Now several songs calling God everlasting on the radio constantly.
Only 3 times in Scripture is God called "the Everlasting God." Once in Genesis (21:33), where it is also the only time it's listed in the Hebrew form of El Olam. The same phrase, the Everlasting God, is in Isaiah 40:28 as Elohi Olam. In the New Testament, the phrase also appears only once, Romans 16:25, as Theos aionios.
3 times…the Everlasting God. Each being different words in their original text.
God is listed as other words many more times. For example, Elohim is used over 2200 times in the Bible. God, the Mighty One, Most High, Almighty, etc. But none are ringing out more to me than Everlasting. The Everlasting God. At All Times. Always. Permanent. Lasting Forever. Eternal.
This is the God that I serve. THE God. The Everlasting God. The Only God that has eternal reign.
